PART #: C4T-QBOD-Kit We have designed a current-sensing occupancy detector that works with both DC and DCC layouts. Current sensing detection requires rolling stock to draw a small current. You can make your own detectable wheelsets for rolllng stock that draw a small current, or you can purchase them from companies such as Logic Rail Technologies We have had good results with two of their detectable wheelsets per car. Whether the output of a detector drives a signalling circuit or feeds into a computer, isolation between your track power and the circuit the detector feeds into is a good idea. Our detector accomplishes this by using optical isolation. To help keep costs down, our circuit board is designed to hold up to FOUR detectors. This way, the most expensive components (the board and the connectors) are shared across four detectors. This can also simplify your layout wiring, as a single feeder from your track bus is needed for four separatly detected sections of track. If you have a situation where you don't need all four detectors in a location, it is possible to only populate the part of the board for the circuits that are needed.
